Mind Over Weight

When it comes to weight loss there are two things that are absolutely critical:

1) Believing you can lose weight
2) Staying positive in the face of minor set backs
And a recent study showed just how important your head is when it comes to weight loss. In this particular study, researchers found that weight-loss maintainers have a different biological response in the brain to pictures of food than do normal-weight and obese controls. They activate an area of the brain that is associated with greater attention to food cues and increased inhibitory control in response to these cues.
By responding differently, they are actively using their brain to control their food intake. Though the study authors have more questions they hope to address with future research, one thing is clear: getting your head in the game will help with weight loss.
