To Lose Weight, Get Your Head Straight

A few days ago I was listening to a popular speaker talk about Detoxing Your Mind. What a brilliant idea. Many people detox their bodies (from what I’m not sure since their organs actually do this for them) but never stop to think about that incessant noise in their head telling them they can’t lose weight, they’ll never look like so and so (some airbrushed cover model), they are too old, too young, they come from the bottom of the gene pool, their thyroid doesn’t function well (even though the tests say everything is fine), they can’t stick to eating healthy food because they are busy, they entertain clients and therefore have to drink several nights a week…

You name, I’ve heard it. And, on the flip side, I’ve seen many people who literally decide they are going to do something that is seemingly impossible (run a marathon even though they’ve never exercised in their life for instance) and they do it. They never have any of the “I can’t” thoughts replaying over in their head like a bad infomercial. Instead, they buy into the philosophy that if you complain, you will remain. Remain right where you are, stuck like glue.

If you have even a little bit of this scenario going on in your life, it’s time to make a change. Forget the weight for a minute, forget the obsessions about your body and get your thoughts straightened out. Read or listen to the Secret, pick up some Dale Carnegie books, spend less time with the complainers in your life and surround yourself with those people who never have a single doubt in their mind – about themselves or especially about you. I can guarantee you that your late night Waffle House meal of grease + more grease won’t make a bit of difference in the long run but the thoughts that you have about yourself and what you can and cannot do will.
